While Somalis are wasting a hefty price tag on a 4yr BA/BS degree. Many Southern Asians have found an alternative route that's cost efficient. By obtaining sql server certification, which as opened door ways to work for top-notch fortune 200 organizations. In average these developers complete a 3-6 months course load with a price tag varying roughly $850--3,000 USD in most programs before becoming certified.

I agree certs are the new come up because of the high demand for IT jobs, however if u wanna move up u gotta have a BA (it could be bullshit) but it opens the door for u.

I see a lot of Somalis working on their CCNA, which is a good start however it's impossible to get in this field without having experience, so I always tell them to volunteer while they in the program.

Also, these new coding schools popping up ain't bad either.

According to Forbes and Harvard business, certs are absolutely on the rise, with the right competence, skills, experience and the right connect, it’s quite possible to make a tremendous earning. Almost every organization has some form of sql or other certificate requirement nowadays. I’m all for learning and getting educated, no doubt the opportunities is endless if you have a degree. Though in retrospect, how many of us here have a masters? Has it paved the way for career mobility? My personally experience, has taught me to excluded it from my resume unless I want project 'pay me more', or at least that’s how it comes cross on a resume. Your right tho, many organization would rather hire experience over a college degree. Nonetheless, degrees are beneficial to have although finding a job that will compensate you based on the credential you're worth is another story in itself.

$100,274 ends up $5000 per month after federal, state, & city income tax and other deductions. A truck driver who owns his truck makes at least twice as much in the US, pays less tax, and can travel the world 3 to 4 months for a vacation. When he (or she) comes back, his/her job is waiting for him/her.

The person who runs a home healthcare business makes at least 5 to 10 times what SQL developer makes, owns bigger houses, and lives comfortably than a SQL server developer or a truck driver. Of course, if he pays his tax rand employees salary right, he (or she) still earns much less but that is still better than what SQL developer makes.

Folks, put your minds in business. This is the only way to break through the poverty line. The flight 13 guys are risk takers and are doing much better than anyone 8-)

This field will become redundant in the future. Dba task could be all automated. Since everything is in the cloud now there will be less and less jobs in Dba

A more more promising career could be devOps or front end development

We should definitely focus more on entrepreneurship and small business ownership.
