a following problem?

Postby surria » Sat Nov 19, 2005 7:09 pm

You know I’ve been thinking lately about our people, the Somalis. I have noticed that we copy each other actions. I mean look at the number of Somalis who have studied computer programming. I'm not saying that it is bad, on the contrary, actually when it comes to education it is a good thing, good motivation for young kids to follow by example. But, when it comes to other situations it can be 2 much. I member a while back my aunt got one of those 50' inch TV's and the next think I know all my other relatives got them 2, and then their friends got them, lol. The same can be said for not just education, or material things, but also for regional movements. For example, if one or two Somalis move from a certain state to another, few months later you hear your mom telling you that so and so has moved there as well.

So my question to you guys is, is it just me or have you noticed it yourself as well? Is this limited to Somalis? I’ve always wondered this.

Share your stories on this kind of behavior, what has been your experience? For example my own experience has been quite funny, it goes way back to my first job. When I got a job at the local mall my mother told all her friends that I was working and then the next day (this is no joke) bunch of their kinds come to the store I worked at and try to applie for the same position Laughing . I was so shocked, I mean why would they come to my store? I mean there were so many other stores in the mall. I thought it was strange.

I have noticed thsi problem when i was very young kid. Have you ever been to a somali supermarket? You will find lines after lines of people selling the same exact shit. I DO MEAN SAME EXACT SHIT.

Somalis need to learn to diversify and specialize.

We aren't the only ones with this problem. Africans and some asians also suffer from this disease. Its comes from lack of education and fear.

It's mostly fear of failure. They are afraid if they come up with new product or service, no1 will be interested in it. Ask any somalis what kind of business he or she would open, they all say "halaal" store..lol..

Masha'Allah, as a future business mogul and entrepernuer i noticed this problem when i was around 8 years old. Laughing Laughing

yup...people do what people know!

Education helps us see that there are more than one way of doing things. And taking risk which is the hallmark of being an entreperneur helps explore new ideas.

Good Vodka!!!

This asharaf lady is intelligent!!!

The problem with somalis everywhere (even on this forum) is imitation and cheerleading. We don't question, challenge or deviate.

We are a people easily seduced by the urge to agree or attempt to do as others do.
