When have I not given them their just due/credit? I have always said: Somalia is destroyed (for now, until they recover), Dji-booty is a stadium sized ''country'' that cannot stand on its own two. So in reality, I show respect to countries who are self-reliant and independent-such as Somaliland. Go search my posts, I have always given props to Somaliland even if I vehemently disagree with their policies in regards to somali unity, their kissing up to tplf, and so on.
In regards to the ogaden war, there were two, the first one was in 1963, and Ethiopia whipped Somalia like a bad child. This was when Ethiopia was a little more stable politically. In 1977, Ethiopia was still going through political turmoil (a government change was still not clear, in regards to who held power within the Derg), so it was the perfect time to attack, I guess, for Somalis.
But the question is: despite the soviets and others saving ethiopia, who armed somalis in the first place? who trained them? who built the massive and well-trained army that they bragged about: hint: it wasn't you, the somalis who did it, you didn't produce those tanks, jets, and arms/ammunition.
So when those same allies of yours, sees a more important country, and switches sides: don't get mad.
Ethiopia maybe poor, that's fine, and yes a product of neo-colonialism, but when it comes to politics in the horn and Africa in general--Ethiopia is by far more influential and powerful than Somalia.

I don't hate Isaaqs in general, just the arrogant ones who act as if they have no ties to their own somalis in the south. there's no clan wars. no ethnic based wars. no blood running in the streets. people still go to the market and go to school. is this happening in war-torn somalia? probably not in the south, at least.

secondly--who told you the majority want secession? if the majority wanted it, truly, then nobody can stop them. so those are the main two reasons against oromo secession: 1. they are not wanting it, collectively, and 2. it doesn't seem viable/possible because as you said yourself the western powers have a vested interest in ethiopia (and keeping it united, of course).
The Oromo situation is much different from the Somalis in regards to Ethiopia.
Somalis, have not been integrated into the state, and if they secede, Ethiopia will be intact.
Meanwhile, the Oromo, on the other hand, have been very much integrated into the Ethiopian state, and if they secede, Ethiopia will crumble in a matter of seconds; which once again, the west won't tolerate.
secessionist movements usually only prosper if they have western support, or at the very least, their indifference. south sudan succeded a lot because of the western support/ethio support/israeli support.
eritrea succeded because they had the arab support, and the west could not do much, because the secession was supported overwhelmingly in eritrea----the same cannot be said for the oromos.
