I believe emperor Yohannes IV was Irob. I have some sources that back his family belonged to the old Irob shum of Agame who later were transferred to Tembien before himself was born in Enderta.

They have their own separate culture and speak a Cushitic language. Their identity is due to being in a mono-ethnic region.
