Long time lurker. I've been reading this forum for a while and was wondering if my brothers and sisters in somalinimo can help a sister out. I just graduated uni and settling into the work life but I think It's finally time for me to settle down and have a family. Problem is...i have no idea how to go about finding a spouse. To give you guys some backstory I've always been a good girl who never gave guys no mind because I was busy with bettering myself and my family. Alhamdulilah now that I've achieved my education and career goals I'm open to meeting someone for the sake of marriage but where all the good somalis at??
It can be perplexing when you hit that stage but have zero experience. Don't fret too much. I'd advise you to speak to your mother as she's probably thought about it already and should have a few ideas up her sleeve. Some go to weddings for purpose of meeting someone, if you have the guts you may try that. Some just get proposed to directly by those who know your family, ideally this would be best as it involves the least effort. Also, many people go to the masjid;speak to some influential sisters there so they get to the Imaam to make it known you're available and what you want. I'm not sure how it works exactly but give it a try. And lastly, make dua, have realistic standards and never lose dignity. Marriage is not our end goal but just one means out of many to succeed in this test called life.
