Confusing DNA test

Postby Garaadka50 » Thu Nov 24, 2016 11:00 pm

So a month or two ago I saw a post on my facebook of 23andme they were doing a free test for Africans living in America, for research purposes. So I just signed up and recieved the package. I wouldve never paid for something like this. But yea I recieved my results and its confusing. Its says Im 97% East African which was expected. But my Paternal haplogroup is what threw me off. J-M267 otherwise known as J1. Now before I did this I didnt even know what the hell a Haplogroup was so I was doing lazy research which led me to the forum and most Somalis who've gotten this done seem to have e1b1b1 haplogroup, which originated most likely in the horn. While the one I have is found in the Middle East and is high amongst Bedouin Arabs. Now my father's family is from Gedo and were historically nomads, I've read that Somalis who usually have the J1 come from coastal areas so they had contact with Arabs. But my family being from Mudug and Gedo I dont know how the hell this happened. I also figured Somalis with the J1 haplogroup would have a higher admixture. But Im 97% east african. This is confusing lol.Any insights? Thanks. Keep it cordial and nice. I know you guys can be ruthless.
