Abgaal subclans conquered the city smashing Arab power forever. Furthermore, there was a thirty year religious sectarian war resulting in an end to Shiaism in Somalia. :)

Italians got slaughtered. I know Lafoole has historic significance when it comes to fighting Italians

If you google Mogadishu 1897 you will likely find a book with the story - the resident (lead Italian guy) and co. decide to go on a sight seeing trip/expedition into the hinterland and they get massacred. The resident does not make it back, only a handful do

Actually I read a book which suggested that the Italians only had a few fortified "prison" cities along the coast to ensure their own security and "Lugh" (I guess they got to Luuq through Ethiopia). When you think of colonialism and you hear country X colonised country Y I don't know about you but I pictured the whole of the country being under colonial rule and not just a few cities close to their ships but apparently such was the case in Somalia
