I wanted to see how similar some of the vocabulary in Somali is with my languages amharic/tigrigna. I will list some words in the first topic, animals.

Faras is Semitic of Arab origin. Somalis have at least few words for horses. Senge, geenyo, darmaan and maybe over 40 words for camels.

Dooro is borrowed from Amahra by southern Somalis northern Somalis use the Arabic loanword for chicken which is digaag.

The word for cat in amharic or tigre is very similar to somali word for wild cat not domestic one.

Nothing is shared.

Feres/faras are loan word from Persia.

Horses are not native to Africa.

No idea where dooro came from coz not all Somalis use that term. It is mainly in the south. It's clear the south borrowed from Ethiopia like the word injera, which they tried to Somalinize it (canjeero).

The languages who share more in common are Af Somali, Afaan Oromo, Agew, Bilen, Qafar-af, Afaan Sidamo...and Af-Saho.

Let me share counting (writing in Somali alphabet with the Cushitic pronunciation)

SOMALI

KOW, laba/Lama, Sadex, Afar, Shan, Lix, totoba, Sideed, Sagal, Toban,


OROMO

Taka, Lama, Sadi, Afur, shan, Jaya/Jah, Turba, Sided, Sagal, Ku dhan (btw ku dhan means complete in Somali)

SAHO

Iniik, Lamaa, Odox/odex (still same pronunciation except begins with O), Afar, Koon (sounds close to kuun meaning 1000 in Somali), Lix, Maalxin (the word maal is very big on Somali language after all it defines them SoMAALi, maal has many meanings such as to milk, wealth), Baxaar (8), Sagal, Toman.


As you can see the relations and these people have not came into direct contact in the modern times.

That's why I am a great believer in the ancient Cushitic family.

I celebrate them all.

I have updated my post.

I tried collecting some of the Agew words but it is quite hard to find a fluent speaker especially in the Diaspora.

However I am aware their languages whether Qemant, Himra or Bilen is very close to Somali.

I can find Bilen speakers as I have many friends from them but I think Himra from Seqota is the most authentic Agewna.

The problem we have is they long got polluted by Tigringya, Tigre, Amharingya and Arabic as is the case in Bilen.

Somali itself is not the same Somali 100, 200 or 500 years ago.

WARANYAA (amharic) is properly is one of two word s that are 'shared' between amharic and afsoomaali. In Afsoomaali is WARIYEE /WARBADANE/WARAMEE. I think xabasha stole this word from afsoomali.
The other being JAAMAA in amharic and in Afsoomaali it is Jaamo meaning shoes.

There is also SUUQ which both share but belongs to neither it is a loaned word from Arabic

True, I think pretty much most of Amharic Cushitic words come from the Agew languages, same with Tigrigna but maybe with Beja influence too on that.
And I agree they do get polluted, a lot in-fact, especially with Agew. Same thing applies with Tigrigna too in the very south. Amharic not so much.

What does this 'waranyaa' word mean? I have never come across it, maybe it's the spelling. The meaning in English would be helpful .
In Amharic shoe is ch'ama, it's most likely an Agew borrowed word because of the ch' sound.

And yes, suq is from Arabic->Aramaic->Akkadian.
