NATO's chief auditor, Yves Chandelon, who was responsible for delving into companies financing terror and laundering money, was found dead in the Belgian city of Andenne on Dec. 16.
A daunting claim regarding the death of the key man in NATO's financial war on terror is widely going the rounds among NATO circles - that his murder was disguised as a suicide.
He allegedly detected a NATO member state's intelligence agency directing terrorist structuring in Europe via private companies and connections.
Thus, many believe that Chaldelon was silenced due to his latest investigation into the financing of terror activities, and the clique that killed him, needs to be revealed.
Those allegations draw attention to terrorist attacks that empower far-rightists by escalating tension and stoking xenophobia in Europe.
The possibility that the assassination was carried out by a cell within a state's intelligence agency, which has an interest in the rise of far-right politics, is therefore found quite reasonable for many.
The latest example of such incidents was the truck attack in a Christmas market in Berlin last week. As a result, racist and xenophobic elements have gained ground and societal segregation has accelerated, creating paranoia in Europe.
The assassination was conducted near the home of one of Chaldelon's friends - a friend to whom he owed around 50,000 euros - to make it seem more like a suicide; however, concrete murder evidence concerning the death has been found.
This issue needs an in-depth investigation extending to the planners of terrorist attacks that have incited racism and social distress in Europe recently.
