I completely agree, in America the privilege of being an individual applies only to cadaan people, the rest of us are judged as a collective group. We should definitely aspire to be successful like how Asian communities focus on education and keep a low key profile, I understand that. However when a mentally ill farax goes on a stabbing spree somewhere in Ohio, I will not apologize nor appease cadaans like our friend xplaya is suggesting.

This is a success story and the research for this paper was conducted in 2012. That was 5 yeears ago. It seems part of the racism towards Somalis stems from the fact that some see the proliferating Somali businesses as if they got the startup money from the government. It is a lie and a form of envy, if you really look at it, since there's really no federal or state provided free money to start a business.

Another point that many ignore is, many of the Somali refugees, who started these businesses, have brought the entrepreneurial skills with them. You can measure this when you see a guy or a woman running a million-dollar small business who can't read nor understand English.

Long story short, this is a point that we need to emphasize and show the contribution of newly arrived Somali refugees to the larger American public. We should also emphasize the roughly $2 billion USD that we sent back to Somalia. It virtually keeps the whole country functioning. I don't know about others but in my view Somalis are beating the odds.

I agree, cadaan racism should be kept in check. Even with my education and position they will still hate just for being different. It will never stop.
