I know of few families including my in laws that have such a member. When this individual is not around they talk about him/her negatively but also just to entertain themselves and in the case of my in laws they even made nicknames for him that he is not even aware of and it's fair to say no one has the guts to say things in his face

Btw the reason for posing this question is that I want to know how common this is in Somali families

No. Sounds terrible, why single out 1 person?. In my family, we roast everyone in their face, sometimes I joke with my parents about something they did/said

It's too common. Just a few weeks ago I was made aware of a speech that one of the sheekhs where I live gave to a gathering of Somalis. He used minutes talking sh*t about me and a friend of mine. Why? Because we arranged a party for Somalis a while back and told him and his possy's to mind their own business when they wanted us to cancel it so as not to "create fitna", as he put it.

And this is a man I've helped a lot over the years.
