But seriously all those people complaining about the lack of democracy, didnt have a problem when Turkey was ruled by the millitary behind the scenes, it was never a democracy until the AK party came to power.
For the first time the party that people voted for had real power and ran the country without supervision from the army.

As for the EU, AK party pulled a judo move on both the EU and the army to screw over both of them.

The chance of EU memeber was dangled at the millitary and secularists to keep them well behaved and allow real democractic elections and
avoid interfering in the government.
AK party pushed strongly for EU membership while they used the time to slowly chip away at the power of the army.

Now that the army is powerless and the AK party is fully in control, they do not need the EU,
infact they view the EU as a liability and a national security risk.

This is why Erdogan activly trolls the EU and pisses on them all the time, while they look at him and cannot do anything.
AK party has zero interest in EU membership.
