Is Qaat/Khat part of Somali culture

Postby xisaabiye1 » Sun Aug 20, 2017 1:34 pm

How long have Somalis been chewing qaat? Is it just the last generation that started this destructive culture or has it been chewed for centuries

Khat has its origin in Ethiopia. Its consumption become widespread in Somalia during the 1970s. The first Somalis to use it on a wide scale hail from Waqooyi Galbeed. These in turn introduced it to southern Somalia.

There's no such thing as Waqooyi Galbeed Somalia.

Btw, Zoomalis from Zoomalia chew Miiraa and the consumption of Khat (miiraa) is higher in Zoomalia than Somaliland. :umad:

It should really be a restricted drug because it's devastating to our societies.

You aren't making sense. A drug that devastates societies should be banned, not 'restricted.'

khat is a poison that makes the somaliman below weight, unproductive and worthless in bed.

but the difference between the somalis and yemenis who consume it is that yemenis chew it while working bc it gives them more energy for this reason i avoid their takeaways, shops for being unclean while somalis chew it out of the work, causing unproductivity and they dont take break to eat

marqaan man doesnt know what he is doing therefore its haram listen to this man

Khat is poison as sahal80 stated. It doesn't need restriction as you foolishly suggested.

Bro yemenis use like 70% of their water supply to farm qaat. Nobody chews qaat like them, although they still are more productive than us

I think the drug culture in Muslim dominated countries was tied to British colonialism.

I remember reading the Brits fueled the drug trade in Yemen and West Asia then it spread to Ethiopia and Somalia. That's how Iranians, Afghanis, Yemenis and Somalis became addicts.

Strangely enough, Ethiopia is the main source of exportation to Somalia and yet, they don't consume as much as Somalis do. Also, almost every consumers in Ethiopia are Muslims (the plants are all in the eastern side).

I'm beginning to think khat is only consumed by Muslims. :?

Lol, you Muzzie clown, your mind is so barren like a baby's mind no wonder you keep posting baby pics. That's what your mind is attracted too?

If you can't articulate your own opinion without being a buffoon then at least have the decency to spare us your display of "like he said" view.

I didn't get your incomprehensible comment, particularly the 2nd paragraph. Elaborate.
