I think they are using North Korea to get to Trump/USA and then cause a world war 3. At minimum they want to embarrass the USA by showing that who is in control. IF We --the free UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are smart. We can use old school style of divide and conquer. Cause a civil war in Russia, split it into pieces and we are good to go. China--is too smart to get into dumb war. They have worked hard over the past 30 years. It is the useless Russia that has nothing to lose.
