If u had been wondering why those who frequent the 'UK' section of this forum are coming a cross like a group of hapless hicks in the middle out Mongolia, I think I have an explanation for this sordid start of affairs.

The education system in this country is a complete joke, gov't of all colours have failed to solve this problem. The public schools these lots attend are called 'Comprehensive' schools; these are large institutions, 100 of kids. Private schooling is a dieing breed, I would say it almost extinct.

The scandalous thing is this: many pupils came out of these schools with a poor grasp of basic education, stuff like proper grammar, reading etc. This is not to absolve anyone of being crap, but a valid factor to consider, this socialist system of education has failed and Tony Blair to his credit is planning a radical overhaul of what his former adviser Alistair Campbell once labeled in unflattering way 'Bog standard' Comprehensive.

I appalled at the sight of bunch of young faaraxs on their way home from school, with their trousers hanging down, walking like they're extra in a gangster movie. They're not interested in learning at all sadly as you can deduce it yourself from their unintelligible conversation in these pages.)

In the land of William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, JK Rowling, Stuart Mills, Charles Darwin, Milton Keynes, Michael Faraday etc, our youngster are failing and they are disgracefully scrapping the barrel with Afro-Caribbean and Bengalis kid in failing league tables. God help us and them

The education system in the UK is far superior to that of the U.S but the majority of Somalis living in the U.K are losers whose only knowledge is reading the amount of money on the welfare check.
But those who really apply themselves and study are much smarter than their counterparts in the states where public education is a joke.

In america you have lots of somalis who work hard and study despite increasing tuition rates and access to private schools with good education system.

Personally, I think the main factor is assimilation. It appears to me that the Brits are a lot more "British" than Somali, if ya know what I mean. Whereas over here, there's less assimilation, and more contact with their roots, the spoken language factor aside. I also notice the UK'rs are always reppin their hoods, as if they're native Pudlian's or whatever.

^^i dunno about that man. Somalis in north america are far more assimiliated (integrated actually) than UK somalis...In america, you kind of have to survive whereas in europe, you can live in your own ghetto (paki, somali, bengali) while collecting your welfare.

It's the same here, but here they don't "act" Canadian. UK'rs though seem to "act" British. I DO agree they're more integrated here, cuz ya GOTTA be to survive. But do they really "act" American?? In terms of their thought process being the same as regular Yanks and Canucks?

True..well i think it's because of them were born there or lived thre sinec they were babies. While they defend their Islam/Somaliness, they are very "british." I was very surprised to find out that most of them are planning or very itnerested in visiting somaliland/somalia..

they are just lost...but they are ok.

If the system has failed them what do you suppose that single moms with 3-4-5 kids waiting for their welfare checques as a mercy from God, do about the situation.

This was a calculated program by these governments(some passion and humanitarian help is involved ..dont get me wrong) Europe and even Canada to keep these new unskilled refugees at bay and in welfare for as long as possible so that half of their kids will end up being uneducated and of those half will end up in jail(thats what happening in Canada at least)....so that maybe the saved half could get on with the society and if they're lucky be part of the future generation that the white man would proudly say...We are a tolerant society, we have minorities who are educated we even have some of them in the parliamnet.

I think in relation to assimilation to the local way of life, here in England, I would venture to disagree with Micheal and assert that vast numbers of Somalis have not assimilated at all, they keep to themselves largely.

Those who have done so, are sadly apeing a rather sinister way of life and that is the Yardie style. Drug taking, acting like a complete prick really.

I cannot comment on the United States obviously. but judging by the number of correspondence residing over the pond, it seems prima facie to me u have a better education system than us, or is it down to the individual?

The education system here in the UK is alot better than anywhere else in the world. What we call A levels here is considered degree level in America. When I showed my cousins from the US my books they couldn' t believe what we had to do over here to go to university . The education system is free and it' s up to the individual to make full use of it.

Believe me I personally know ppl from the UK section ( not naming names) who are in uni doing law/chemical enginering and medicine. Don' t let the use of slang here and there fool you. Ofcourse the place is also full of drop outsbut don' t jump into conclusions. It' s just a way of communication that' s all.

I am afraid I dont buy your conspiracy brother. This country does not shackle you neither will it spoon feed you, u have to fend for yourself.

Single-Mother, the scourge of alot of communities in England.

UK have the best education systems however secondary (high) schools are the ones which are failing students, the secondary schools which are situated in the poorest areas obviously have the lowest achievers and the somalis are part of them.

Somalis don't have any strong guidence, i believe they are easily influenced!

Another example why America why is much better place to live than any other wester country..

It's a country built by and for immigrants. If you don't get a job or school yourself, no1 will help you.

We dont have the best schools in England, I think France and most of continental countries have better system. walaal, dont be fooled by the booming university enrolment, vast numbers of these degrees are worthless, the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and Institute of Directors are not amused by universitygraduates, they are quite scathing in their criticisms of them. one word they said was: unemployable.

Lord diplock...american high school education is the worst in the western world. Even the best high school in america can't compete with european high schools, not even with japenese...

American kids do better than all the kids in middle and elementary school but as soon as they get to high school-BOOM- Dumbville.
