For me, being non muslim and Western, is really disgusting the way the West mass media are treating the issue of having fun with Muhammad and insulting muslim people under the 'umbrella' of freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech ends when that speech is an insult. If you make fun or insult the King of Spain, you're punished with jail. If you burn the flag of United States in the United States, you're punished. I don't understand why the Western media find so shocking that insulting Muhammad it's not using freedom of speech, but insulting muslims all over the world...

Some kind of respect should be needed here, sometimes, too, in the West.

Freedom of expression shouldn't be misused and diluted by extremists with intentions of creating contraversy and mistrust in order to push their agenda. Denmark is in the grips of an extremist anti-immigration debate (even the Prime Minister got elected on this card) and the tense atmosphere is almost palpable something the Jyllands-Posten has tapped into, since they themselves sympathize with these forces.

The Spanish and other European papers have also joined this incredulous band-wagon to support their Danish and Norwegian counterparts. The Spanish (before they were called Spanish I guess) had durable contact with Muslims in the past until the "Reconquista" and I'd expect them to be more negative to Islam, is it the case in Spain?

Nimble: No, there isn't a negative attitude toward muslims in Spain since we have a lot of monuments and reminiscences from Al-Andalus times: names of the cities, agricultural traditions, architecture. Most of rivers in Spain have arabic names: Guadalquivir (Wad Al Kebir) and a great number of cities: Córdoba (Qurtuba), Sevilla (Ishbilliah), Málaga (Malaka).

Actually, Spain was one of the few countries which didn't attacked muslims after the attacks of March-11 in which almost 200 people were killed my (muslim?) terrorists. In the opposite, people undertood perfectly that one thing is a muslim and a completly thing is a terrorist. We knew that before the attacks because we've been living with the terrorism of ETA for more than four decades.

Spanish new government, also, withdrawed the troops in Irak when it won the elections because 90% of the Spanish people were opposed to a war they consider unfair and false.

The muslim population is growing and growing in Spain and trying to have a life here, so there's a good relationship with them. More and more mosques are being built in order to satisfy the religious needs of muslim population and the relationship is good.

The only problem is when some few so-called muslims try to spread a fundamentalist and fanatic message among muslim people. By they're quickly rejected by their own people. Although you can see some of them, hijab has a very rare use in Spain by girls. Most of them dress like Western girls, and behave in a Western way, of course: they don't drink alcohol nor eat pork and all that. But it's quite difficult to distinguish a muslim man or woman from a Western Spaniard man or woman. The only difference are their religious believes. There's a great -and I hope it remains so- harmony right now in Spain. That's why I don't understand why newspapers are not respecting the religious believes of muslim when they actually now that Muhammad can't be represented in the muslim tradition...

But this time I think that in 'my side' they're making a great mistake under the 'freedom of expression' shit. Because I don't find it 'freedom of expression'. They say that there are movies critizising Christianity and nobody made demonstrations against it.
