African Teams in The World Cup......

Postby Mowhawk » Sun Feb 12, 2006 6:30 pm

Tunisia
Togo
Ghana
Cote d'Ivoire
Angola

Only Tunisia had experienced the world cup finals stage. Considering there are world class players like Drogba of Ivory Coast, or Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor of Togo who was the top scorer in African qualifying games, do you think these teams will be better than the previous teams, and take Africa a step further, like the semi finals or, will they all exit early?

Ivory coast has great potentials. Its the most "professional" team out of the bunch and their style is more European than what we are used to seeing from African teams. Its very similar to that of Chelsea (defensive, counter-attacks etc.).

Traditionally, African teams have had some of the worst defenses laakin this team seems to have that part on lock.

The only downside is that they're in the so-called "group of death".

Ghana should be interesting with Muntari and Essien.

Nigeria would have been exciting Martins,Kanu,Okocha,Obi and Yakubu.

Too bad they didn't make it

Why the fuck would Freddy Adu play for America?? What an idiot!!!!!!

Xplosive and Optomist

What is your view about those teams doing better than the previous African Teams? Will any of them make to the semis?

I think they can.

These UGALI eating African teams will all be shown the exit door after the group stages. They won't go any further than that. I will be very very surprised if even one of them progresses to the second round. Three of the five that qualified for the world cup did not reach the quarter finals of the African Cup of Nations. I think these African teams are going to be schooled this world cup like never before.

I wished Cameroon and Nigeria made it to the world cup. They were a lot better than Togo, Ghana, Angola etc in the african nations cup.

Like Pablo said, I think they will be shown the exit in the first round of the tournament.

I. Cost has best chances of reaching quater/semi-finals, lets face that is as far as ANY african team will get realistically speaking.

Ivory Cost is solid throughout. Not mostly worls class players but what they have are solid core second string/potential world class players that if coached and trained properly can be turned into success. One thing that impressed me about Ivory cost is their organisation, I rarely saw them out of shape. Organisation has been perenial achilles heel for African soccer teams as those of you followed them in WCs will know.
