I was there as well. Smile I agree it was a memorable event. Masha-Allah a lot of young talent.

Makes you think, somali's are doing it for themselves.
But by proposing that violence is in our blood is just ludicrous!
Your post clearly read and praised the young talent and seemed to me that you was attracted to it prehaps even looking to a brighter future. Then you go on to hamper that wonderful outlook.
It's like one step forward and two steps back ... Be careful, We are posioning ourselves.
If anything, you should have come out of that event saying Insha-Allah there will be plenty of other talents and goodness and this will out-do the foolishness. Think positive for the future generation.
It's a Vicious cycle..

QansaGabeyle,
''We are raised that way. It is not our fault. Parents are to be blamed. To descpline their kids, somali parents whoop their kids with a belt or anything they can find so as a kid, you are made to think to correct anything, you have to whoop some ass.''

Loool. I was thinking the same. But the keyword there is ''to think'' .. shall we impose such 'thoughts' as some of you have in this topic to our younger brothers and sisters?

Salaan Sare Dhamaan,

Qansa, yes, parents are to blame for disciplining their young ones. but later in young adulthood, these people have a responsibility of considering their actions and the copnsequences thereof, hence making them solely responsible for them!

Uncle Bin, Thank you brother. I am already doing that though!

DamallaXagare, Thank you walaal. Love the name and insha-Allah will be visiting that place this summer!

Lil Cutie, glad to see that yoy've attended too. What were your thoughts on it?

As for the part on "Violence" I do agree that we should be more optimistic towards a brighter future, you are being economical with the truth walaal! It's clearly obvious that we are violent people, it doesn't take extensive research to figure that out. All you have to do is attend the next Somali event you come across and judge for yourself.

Wa-Salaam!

I dont think that somalis are inherently violent people, to say that behaviour is inherent is accepting darwins theory of social determinism, where were are not only violent, but also socially and intellectually inferior. But i think somalis accept, condone and even glorify violence more than the average persons.
