Two members of Philippine leftist party groups have been injured when their office was attacked by unidentified bombers in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato, south of the country, security officials said on Monday.
Two suspects on board a motorcycle hurled a grenade into the party members' office Sunday night, police officials told reporters. The suspects fled on board the motorcycle, remaining unidentified.
The wounded victims were Jobanie Tacadao, 24, spokesman of Bayan-North Cotabato, and Roderick Abalde, 25, Anakpawis coordinator for Kidapawan City. The two, both work for their respective leftist parties, suffered shrapnel wounds, according to the Kidapawan City police station.
Abalde is in critical condition and is set to undergo surgery operations while Tacadao is in a stable condition, said Dell Fano,an information officer of Anakpawis said.
The attack came 11 days after two leftist leaders were shot dead in Bicol province. Police authorities have also yet to pinpoint those behind the two killings.
At least 87 leftist activists have been killed by unidentified suspects since April 2001, according to the police's estimate. Militant leftist groups blamed the military for the killings, but the latter termed the allegations as nonsense.
