i mean seriously, why marry someone who is not even there, i mean what temptation are we hastingly avoiding?

IN Islamic marriage laws, is it not mandatory for the two people to see each other during the maher, or they both have to be present? please clarify this. Thus phone marriage does it qualify as valid?

a close friend of mine did it and hes going to nairobi to consumate the marriage in about a month.
