GG
I only ask if fourteen is too young an age for a girl to have sex, because I think that there ought to be an age limit for sex, yet we know from the many ahadith that Aisha had sex at the age of nine with a man 45 years her senior.
Do you think that's acceptable.....would you allow for your nine year old daughter to have sexual intercourse with a 54 year old?

This post isnÂ’t principally concerned with Islam , I'm interested in what Gedo thinks the age limit of consensual sex between youngsters should be.
There's nothing cowardice about it. it's a genuine question. Since Gedo is coming from an Islamic perspective on the question of under aged sex, then it's only right I ask him about his views.
The coward thing would be to duck the question

whats is te point?? it's been discussed here a million times without both camps reaching a consensors. you guys are adamant the prophet was wrong, we believing it was ok putting into perspective the customs and rules in place at the time. i know you like going circles and circles about nating in particlar but "yes it's wrong and no its right" kind of discussion aint something i'm prepared to waste me precise time on. so piss off!

Agnostic,
Compatibility is the primary concern for me, not the specific age. I think the age when Aisha actually conjugally got married to the Prophet (saw) was older than that. But it doesn't matter.
There is nothing to suggest that Aisha had a bad life w/ the Prophet (saw). Rather, they both loved each other and had a relationship that should be the model in love & compassion.
Abu Bakr knew who he was giving his daughter in marriage to: The master of humanity.
A pretty good bargain!

Again, SO WHAT? You're not making an arguement nor rebutting someone else. All you doing is venting.
Either put up with it or shut up!

Don't get me wrong here GG, I'm not particularly concerned with Mohammed and Aisha's relationship (although I think its's rather repugnant), I'm cheifly concerned with the implications it has for others given that Mohammed is seen as an example to be emulated.
Given that Aisha was indeed nine years old when Mohammed "consummated" their marriage (see hadith below), does that mean that Islam has no qualms about youngsters as young as nine having sex?
" Narrated 'Aisha:
that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death). "

Look, there is nothing wrong with an individual having lawful sexual relations at WHATEVER age they are sexually developed.
If you chose not to get married to a girl younger than whatever arbitrary age you deicde, then that is your business.
But you always seem to concern yourself with the slightest details you feel can cause contraversy.
Getting married to a young girl is not one of the pillars of Islam.
I've never seen you create a large thread on what the economic & social implications of Zakah are, for example. You orbit around the contraversial issues 24/7 no matter how minor they are.
Why do you concern yourself w/ minor details especially on a website where all you get are stronger & stronger convictions of the truthfulness of Islam.
If you're gonna waste your time on bashing Islam, at least draw a decent paycheck by it by getting employed in one of those thinktanks that employ Islam-bashers.

I've stated unequivocally that this thread has naught to do with the grotesque pedophile relationship of Mohammed with Aisha. The only one making an issue of it is you Gedo Boy. I'm primarily interested in ascertaining what people think the age limit of sex ought to be.
I disagree with your morality however. I don't believe that nine is an appropriate age for kids to have sex. I think that's far too young. Most nine year old kids haven't developed a curiosity in sex, nor are they sexually aware of their bodies.

Sexual maturity has largely to do w/ environment & living conditions.
I said if they're not sexually mature then they shouldn't get married.
You are specifically implying that Aisha was not mature at that time and you have no knowledge of that.
I know the Prophet would not consumate a marriage with someone who was not ready.

Doesn't it make you as a conscientious and principled person the least bit uneasy that a 54 year old man can have sex with a nine year old pubescent girl?

sex at sixteen huh.
well, there is no way i would allow them to do it that for sure, but i would get them married, not arranged though.
if i let them i would be a hypocrite, and that i can afford to be.
