Is killing POWs standard Muslim practice?

Postby Steeler [Crawler2] » Wed Jun 21, 2006 3:55 am

Not a single US soldier captured by Iraqi insurgents has been kept alive. Not one. I say we should execute everyone in Guantanamo Bay in retaliation. Cut off their heads and be done with it.

"The Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of five insurgent groups led by al-Qaida in Iraq, posted an Internet statement Monday claiming it was holding the American soldiers captive and that "we shall give you more details about the incident in the next few days, God willing."

On Tuesday, after Iraqi officials disclosed that the bodies were found, the Shura Council posted another Web statement, saying al-Zarqawi's successor had "slaughtered" the soldiers. The language in the statement, which could not be authenticated, suggested the group was saying the men were beheaded.

"With God Almighty's blessing, Abu Hamza al-Muhajer carried out the verdict of the Islamic court" calling for the soldiers' slaying, the statement said."

your question would have been fair if the war itself was legal, but in an unlawfull war there will be unlawfull behaviour; on both sides.

the US army see themselves as only doing their duty as well as their god given right to spread "freedom and democracy", but the insurgence as well as the majority of the world and muslim world see it different.

so to answer your question the answer is yes and no, depending on from what point you view the whole iraq saga?...as a profesional soldier with 20 years experience under his belt using your logic i could easily say, what they did to those two soldiers was barbaric and against the geneva convention. but then on the other hand, those soldier werent realy there on a picknick...so no surprise.

There is certainly no surprise. We are fighting savages and we know it. They plant bombs in Mosques for Christ sakes.

I am surprised the soldiers allowed themselves to be taken prisoner, because generally speaking we fight to the death, knowing that being taken prisoner can not end good. Perhaps an RPG struck the vehicle and stunned them for a moment, allowing them to be taken while not fully cognizant.

In the event, I say it's time to take some foreigners we have captured in Iraq, bring them into the town square, and cut off their heads. You know, make a statement.

MAD MAC, why are you crying? You americans killed and tortured thousands of muslims around the world. You talk about respecting these captured dogs while your soldiers kill and torture many muslim prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, Baghram and in those secret CIA-prisons around the world so you just tasted your own medicine.

that wouldnt be making a statement but a decleration of your true colours ( which of course i knew all along) to the world; not that they need any more prove.

but in anycase, dont you think you guys are been little bit more melodramatic with this two death? i mean its not like we are talking about disney world here. they sure aint the first and they sure wont be the last, so why dont you guys save as all the 'god, country and duty tears palava' and say coup,le of hail marrys and move on.

Well, I see another village idiot has signed up for Somalinet. Who is this moron Unlucky anyway? Probably some Haber Gedir dimwit.

Salahudin
Take a note from your namesake and learn a thing or two before spouting off. You and I both know that we aren't killing prisoners. Flat out not true. Certainly not as a matter of policy. Where individual transgressions have happened, we have held those responsible accountable. Can you say the same thing? When was the last time Al Qaeda tried and sentanced one of its members for breaking the laws of land warfare?

Intriguingly the answer is no. Islamic rules of engagement and warfare are just a continuation of pagan arab ones Muhammed simply kept them exactly as they were. These rules stated that a POW is made into slave or exchanged for ransom. I dont think Muhammed added anything to it.

But Rebel is expert on Isalmic laws and he will clarify this for us.

That was kind of my point. All these yahoos here are claiming AQ is legitimate, when OBVIOUSLY they are not. Quite clearly it is a terrorist organization by any definition.

Galol
And I think everyone here can agree that keeping as a slave or exchanging for ransom is not the same thing as decapitating.

So, AQ on this point is clearly conducting operations that are expressly haram.

MAD MAC

You and I both know that americans did kill many prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq during these ongoing wars and only few of them killers have been convicted with next to nothing sentences, only few months or years. And we all know that americans torture their prisoners.

Also I'm 99,99% sure that these 3 "suicidal" muslims in Guantanamo Bay were actually killed. Pious muslim would never kill himself and how can someone hang himself in segregation cell with camera monitoring 24/7?

It's ok to kill war prisoners if the leader of mujaahidiin gives permission. Hanafi opinion is that POW's could never be killed but Maaliki, Shaafici and Hanbali maddhabs approve killing of adult male prisoner. Shaafici said that the Imam is given the choice of killing the prisoners, showing them mercy, ransoming them or keeping them in bondage.

At last we can add that american soldiers in Iraq are unlawful combatants because the whole war is illegal.

Try developing an intellect before you post next time so you can spare us you ridiculous observations.

Salahudin
If you consider it halal to kill POWs (and I think you are on very shaky ground there) then I expect to hear not a peep concerning what we do to the A-Holes at GITMO or Abu Ghraib or anywhere else. Agreed?

Also, there is a HUGE difference between official policy and individual acts. Whether there have been acts that have not been punished is irrelevent. The fact is some have been punished, more will be, and there is a system of accountability. For AQ there is none. Not only that, but you NEVER condemn anything they do. It's as if they get a free pass. You are inconsistent in your thought process.

The losers in London who were released from GITMO all claim that there were a lot of suicide attempts there. Care to explain their position?

Lastly, even if the war were deemed illegal (and that is a long way from certain) the combatants in that war are not illegal combatants. Not by a long shot. The Geneva convention is quite clear on this point.

Beek
My point is that AQ is a barbaric organization which does not in any way, shape or form represent Islam, and it's time for Muslims to stand up and be counted on the issue. That's my point. It's time for guys like you to reject these losers and turn them in whenever you find them. They are bringing disgrace and ill-repute to Islam.
