Syria is on a predictably correct track. Its hereditary president does not have to worry about any public reaction to the economic effect of a high state of military alert. So, why not? As Israel cannot repeat the passivity precedng the 1973 war, it must take into account and prepare for the possibility of an active third front - which entails further disruption of the economy and diversion of planning, forces and supplies from the two active fronts. The silver lining to this cloud is that, once more, there is no combination of states confronting Israel that can prevail.

syria of today is not of yeterday, syria buyed alot of weapons of russia and china, including 10 000 SAM missiles to syria, the only thing they lack is their air forces, syria got edge of this war, cuss they know they could be next so now they could prepare for war, but if i was them i shouldnt attack, i should build their air forces. remember that isreal got one of the best airforces, Syria does not want a conflict, after all no one will offer to rebuild their economy if they were to suffer a fate similar to Lebanon. And would the world`s press be so welcome in the midst of a war as they are in Lebanon Also if military and regime were weakened in Syria, Islamists of similar ilk to Hizbollah would be prime beneficiaries.

Good God !!!

that was brilliant, did you write that Faqashboy or did you copy it from somewhere?

Shocked

Syria cannot catch up wit the isrealis in airpower, bacuase of electronic warefare and better isreali training.
even if by some miracle Syria gets the same aircraft as Isreal, and gets excellent training, due to better electronic warefare capabilites of Isreal, isreal will have the edge.

and Xoogsade

the Zulfiqar is the indigenously reverse engineered T-72
with some upgrades.
but it still has the same problems as the t-72, namely

low protection, obscelete fire control system and basicaly lack of user friendliness.

advantages are that its, sturdy, robust, easy to repain and manufacture and costs 1/3 the price of a M-1 abrams or challanger 2 for example.

"Wallahi, once Syria gets involved, which it looks like it would, Iran will be there and ready."

Syria and Iran don't share a common border. So Iran is really not in a position to attack Israel except with missiles, which would invite counter-attack.

Now, should Iran try and use the oil weapon, the world will be pissed. They'll have played their trump card. The Saudis will, of course, increase production. But the world eonomy will take a thumping. For Iran it will be worse. Iran depends on oil for 85% of its foreign currency. It's economy will collapse.

So I think Iran will talk, but that's about it. And it is just not in Syria's interest to get into this fight.

BTW that's a nice looking tank the Iranians built. Has nice lines, like an M1. Looks like a decent medium tank. Heard they incorporated a missile system into the 125mm smoothbore. That makes good sense given the fire control limitation of the cannon and its inability to kill a heavy tank beyond 1,000 meters. Problem with missile systems is the missiles are slow. It's easy to get hammered tracking a missile into target if you are in gun range.

if its based on the T-72 then thats probably where they got the idea from.
the T-72 was designed with the ability to use missles in its smoothbore 125mm turret.

what would be really usefull against isreals tanks would be,
top attack anti tank missles. likemthe new javlin and the new TOW.

Ironicaly the best missle of this type is the lahat built by the Isrealis

Any kind of fire and forget AT missile system is the way to go. The problem with missiles capable of killing a tank is, in order to get decent pentration or top attack capability, you start getting bulky. Then you have to mount it. You mount it, and the gun system of the enemy tank, if it's decent, tracks and kills you first. But used in mass, and in combination with other gun systems, or with long range missile systems like the hellfire, the missile system can still be quite effective.
