I am, by all means a staunch fan of the UIC, what they stand for and what they have achieved so far, granted, with the support of the public. They have outdone themselves in every sense of the word and they proved to be the saviors of the common man of Mog and environs. However, their relentless copycat of Arab culture is an embarrassment to any full bloodied Somali who is proud of his heritage, culture and Somalinness.
What we share with Arabs (the Muslim ones) is the beautiful religion of Islam and some words that got attached to our language, but the thing that drives me nuts everytime I come acroos is, when I see a Wadaad calling himself Abu Qataada, Abu Xafsa, Abu Abdulla.. etc etc etc, the "Abu" thing is an age old Arab culture where the father takes the first born son's name prefixed with the word Abu. That was never a Somali thing, the closest we had was, the son being called with his father's name prefixed by "Ina" the "son of"
I see this trend in most of the leadership of the Wadaado and I ain't liking it a bit, it ain't Islamic, it is an age old Arab culture that was there even in pre Islam era.
