The Duluth Seaway Port is the largest inland port in the world. Duluth Port is on the western tip of Lake Superior which is 82,097 square kilometers of the earthÂ’s freshest water. The Port has an economic impact of $210 million and provides 2,000 jobs.
Mohamed Ali Yusuf(Gaagaab), Minister of Finance and Abdulweli Abdiraxman Geyre, Vice Minister of Ports and Marine Resources, met with Ronald Johnson, Trade Development Director of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority today. The purpose of the meeting was to establish a relationship between Puntland Ports and the Duluth Port in Minnesota. This relationship is important because the Duluth Port can be used as a model for developing the ports in Puntland.
A group from the Twin Cities, including: Mohamed Wardheera from Senator Norm ColemanÂ’s office, Abdirizaq Dirir of Confederation of Somali Community of Minnesota, Amina Deeble of Somalie Women Civil War Survivors, Professor Deborah Johnson of Inver Hills Community College, Zakarie Adan of Somalia Media, and Abdimalik Askar of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities accompanied the ministers on the Duluth trip. After the meeting with the port authority, the group toured the harbor on a boat where the captain explained how ships utilize the port and the purpose of each of the 15 major terminals
