Do Tattoos have significances/Meanings?

Whats funny is the trend in which they tattoo chinese or japanese characters on thier bodies, without knowing what theymean.

I was with a japanese friend a few years ago on bondi beach,
and he started laughing hystericaly, when i asked him what was so funny,
he told me to look at that girl over there in the swim suit, at her tattoo.

he said that the charecters could be translated as ,

Lool, dont they think about it when they are getting it, for example when they reach a certain age, wringly skin, the tatoo will becomes there worest nightmare basically it cant be presentable, a girl can get a tatoo of a Champagne glass slightly tilted on her breast with a drop on the tip of the glass, well when she reaches 48, that drop will turn into a small puddle on her stomach!
