Three Somali Men Arrested For Possession Of African Drug

September 16, 2006

Three men are facing charges after prosecutors say they were caught with an illegal African drug in Queens Wednesday.

The three Somali men were arrested for allegedly having 13 pounds of the drug called khat. ItÂ’s a leaf common to Africa but considered a narcotic here.

Khat leaves are chewed like tobacco and can cause a temporary buzz.

Prosecutors say the men picked up a UPS package containing more than five-thousand dollars worth of the drug.

They could serve more than eight years in prison if convicted on second-degree drug-possession charges.

ala, you are comparing khat with drinking? Laughing surely, to the west is an offense to chew the thing but it does not kill people. look at what alcohol (drinking and driving) is doing in the west Very Happy

sure, i dislike khat... but i wouldn't compare it to alcohol. and that sure is legal here.
