GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - A female suicide bomber approached Israeli troops Monday in the northern Gaza Strip and blew herself up, the army and Palestinian residents said. One soldier was lightly wounded in the blast, the army said.
The blast occurred amid a six-day long Israeli offensive in the town of Beit Hanoun to stop Palestinians from firing homemade rockets into Israel.
The women, who was wearing an explosive device, approached Israeli troops in the town and blew herself up near the forces, the army said.
Palestinian paramedics confirmed that the woman had been killed.
Hamas radio reported that many civilians were injured in the blast.
