Somalia Islamists storm and recover hijacked ship.

Postby Waraabshe » Wed Nov 08, 2006 2:41 am

NAIROBI, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Islamist fighters who seized control of the Somali capital Mogadishu in June stormed a ship hijacked by pirates off the coast and recovered it overnight, a maritime official said on Wednesday.

Andrew Mwangura, coordinator of the Seafarers Assistance Programme, said all 14 crew were safe and that two pirates were seriously wounded.

"The ship ... is headed back to Mogadishu under the command of three tug boats belonging to the Islamists," Mwangura told Reuters by telephone.

The ship, registered in the United Arab Emirates and carrying charcoal, was seized off the Somali coast on Thursday.

The crew came from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Whose charcoal was it?

Although this is against my own norms, I feel sympathy and empathise with any Somali pirates that hijacks a ship loaded with the destruction of Somali trees. The coal trade is a worse criminal act than the actions of the pirates of that ship. Maybe Law and Order is the biggest concern. I hope the IUC will stop to this madness of charcoal exports.
