Somaliweyn Media Center (SMC) The leaders of Somali Islamists have departed from their last stronghold of southern port of kismayu, two days after they get to the town, as massive Somali government troops backed by Ethiopian forces have advanced to the city, reports said on Sunday.
The move comes as heavy armed Somalia government forces in connection with Ethiopian troops march towards the city by pursuing the remnant of the Islamists leaders who fled their base in Mogadishu three days ago.
Senior Islamic leader in Kismayu told SMC on condition of anonymity that the leaders of the Islamic courts in the town escaped to unidentified location after receiving gossips on Ethiopian forcesÂ’ ambition to bomb the town.
“We have obtained information about the likelihood of the enemy (Ethiopia ) jets to drop bombs in to the city and then we leave it for tactical” the leader said.
Sources in the city told SMC by phone that some of the Islamists leaders have run away to the Islands of Kismayu, while others walked off to Kenya, after the Nairobi government gave them political asylum.
