China took the first step. It violated the Iran sanctions first. CNOOC, the Chinese national oil company will invest $16 billion to develop Iran's Pars natural gas field in exchange for 50 percent of the field's liquefied natural gas LNG production.

Sources from China say the deal was made before the sanction were in place and therefore China did not violate. But smells like it, it looks like it, it is a violation.

Chairman-elect of the U.S. House International Relations Committee Tom Lantos said Dec. 29 that the committee will examine a memorandum of understanding between Chinese national oil company CNOOC and Iran to determine if the agreement merits sanctions for violating the Iran Sanctions Act once Congress reconvenes in January.

Chinese Government sources call it a matter ChinaÂ’s strategic needs and issue of Chinese self determination.

that would only further weaken the USA army and a dramatic rise of insurgency in the whole region. Easy said then done!

Fagash
Why do you think that Chinese growth is bad for America??? China is a natural American ally and trading partner. While we are slightly wary of each other at times, we also recognize how much we need each other. I am not concerned about China at all. China has an inward looking policy and they are very predictable. The Chinese government is moving slowly on internal reform, and given their history, that's understandable. We disagree at times, but so what. Name two cuntries that never disagree. China and America are getting along just fine, and will in the future as well.

Smooth
You could be right, but it would be fun.

i agree with you and i think that your leaders are becarefull when it comes to china.however i dont think that the us wants to be ruled by china in the future.the red communism could rise and this could give the opportunity to have a great sovjet union as their buddy and other alliances like somalia. so it will be a other rol and i dont think that your leaders are waiting for that.

China is not communist anymore. It is ruled by an oligarchy, but it's economy is a market economy. I guess you missed the rule of Deng Xiaoping.

Anyway, no, China is not going to dominate the US anymore than India is. They are strong regional powers and will be future economic competetors. But so what? That's not a bad thing. Just like Europe. Europe's economic growth is not a bad thing for the US.

I remember when I was a kid everyone was talking about the Emerging Japanese giant......... as if economic growth in Japan were bad for the US. Nonesense.
