Somali National Rifle Association Condemns Disarmament
The Somali NRA condemns attempts to suppress the rights of Somalis to bear arms as proposed by the Prime Minister of the TFG.
In a meeting held today at the Dayniile Gun Club, the Somali NRA held a press conference to state their position on the TFG Prime Minister's disarmament plans.
Chairman Maxamed Qanyare Afrah was quoted, "It ludicrous to expect every resident of Mogadishu to disarm in 3 days. What we need is a proper, well funded plan to disarm that addresses security, safety and well being of former gun owners."
Gunowner and weapons afficiando, Abdinuur Siyaad "Abdi Waal" also made a brief statement, "Weapons fell into clan, subclan, and family hands after the collapse of the Siyaad Barre regimes. The Prime Minister must be dreaming to think that he can collect all the guns in Somalia without a comprehensive plan that assures the safety of all former owners."
At the conculsion of the meeting, the Somali NRA provided complimentary tea, khat and AK-47 banana clips to all participants.
Most residents in Mogadishu have decided to brush aside calls for disarmament from the TFG. In a land where guns mean power and where everyone is armed, disarming without proper planning could lead to chaos.
