Iran condemns U.S. air strikes in Somalia
10 Jan 10, 2007, 15:43

TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini has condemned the U.S. air strikes in southern Somalia which left many civilians dead.
“The U.S. air strikes on villages and refugees in south Somalia flouts international law,” he said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The United States launched an air strike Monday on suspected Al-Qaeda hideouts in southern Somalia, leaving at least 19 civilians dead. According to AFP, a Somali government official and local clan elders reported new U.S. air strikes on suspected Al-Qaeda targets in the south on Wednesday.

Hosseini called on foreign countries to avoid interference in Somalia.

All Somali sides should be encouraged to hold “national dialogue” to resolve the internal crisis, he suggested.

He expressed hope that developments in Somali would move in line with the interests and goals of the people after so many years of hardship, adding that Iran is prepared to help resolve the crisis in order to relieve the suffering of the Somali people.

Time for National Dialog? Now that's rich. The last 15 years of dialog has worked so well.
