Southern Somalia with all of it's Bananas, Canbe, rivers of honey Shabeele and Juba was overrated. The farms were owned by wealthy Italian landowners before Ahmed Keyse an Isaaq minister came and confiscated it from the Italians and gave it back to it's rightful owners, the people of Southern Somalia. Siyad Barre was illadvised to screw with the money of Isaaqs, livestock trading was the backbone of the Somali economy and Somalia's hard currency earner, virtually all of it was done between Burco and Berbera, biggest tarders were Isaaq. The Barre administration of 1970s had many Isaaqs working with him for the betterment of the Somali nation as a whole, however, corruption was unbearable, so many left his administration and joined the SNM like Mahmoud Ahmed Silaanyo the last Somali finance minister. Cumar Carte and many Northernors left.

The reason the Isaaqs decided to not join forces with the SSDF has to do with the SNM's being far more superior in terms of military tactics, high ranking ex officers of the Somali National Army, men like Ina Mire, Ina Koosaar and also the seasoned diplomats within the SNM's civilian chain of command. The SNM had for democratically elected chairmen, a central committee compormised of civilians as well as military men.
Barre. Shoud have left the North(Isaaq) alone and we all would still have a country called Somalia.
