I am sure Somalia's withdrawal from Ethiopia was a painful moment for millions of patriotic Somalis, but facing the odds that were presented to the Somali government at the time, the SNA had no other choice but to retreat back to pre-'77 territory.

The UIC's retreat was also a difficult one because it led to Somalia's current demise. A defeat is when all leadership is either captured, killed or flees and there is no longer an opposing army to speak of.

The UIC's leadership is still intact and they have thousands of their troops in southern Somalia, thus no defeat!
