Highclass,

Yes, they are Sufis. I guess they tired of the name Sufi... Laughing Laughing

Of course Geddi would thank the Sufis since most of them have never really brought about any peace or stability. They've remained spectators to Somalia's turmoils for the past 16 years.

suufi is a offensive term coined to describe them, YH I agree they do alot of weird things but most somalis even back in the days were suffis, for example shiek sharid shiek ahmed dad was a famous suufi wadaad.

Most Somalis are not Sufis. They belong to the Shaafici madhab.

Anyway, the original sufism had no bidcah in it. It was all about remembrance and worshipping Allah (swt). Sufi wadaado are probably those who have helped spread Islam the most. The thing is though the people who they spread the practice to mixed the original sufism with their local traditions and customs. That is how the new form of sufism evolved (praying to "Saints" and all types of shirk).

The most prominent Sufi scholar of all times is probably Al-Ghazali.

every muslim nation has some sort a suffi cult innit, i remember the suffis in senegal dancing to this guy who brought suufism to them in the 1800's, while the suffis in Tanzania do some other weird stuff to pray homage to some dude, and back in the days somalis would visit the grave of a dead shiek [ I forget his name], the oroma do the same to some shiek name hussain.
