Unlike some, like Djibouti and Bosaso, rer Berbera have choices. They moved out of that hell (not that its hotter than those others) to the more family-friendly inland cities.

The Arabs and the Indians of course fled during the 1988 civilwar and never returned. But the locals have moved out of the city due to extreme weather. I think it got hotter the last 16 years.

To illustrate, when its election time and every one goes back to his home region the population of the city grows so much that people start sleeping on the frontyards because there are no enough houses.

Sakhran

You raise a great point. The neglect and the destruction we are subjecting to our heritage is something we need to talk to about.

I recently saw a picture of the Ottoman Lighthouse of Berbera(noobiyada) in a really bad shape. Berbera's thousand year old Synagogue is now gone. It's other religious landmark, the one in your pic? is the 800 year old Mosque.

In Zeylac the destruction is even worse. And that is just the North..

In the South the desecration being visited upon the glorious Arab/Fatimite/Somali/ Portuguese/Italian architecture and heritage in places like Xamar and Merca and Brava is purely criminal.

I know the Midgaan area is still intact... safe and sound. Laughing

There are no Daarood villas in Berbera. The few there was have already been bought back by Habaryoonis or Ciise Muuse. Mind you, the 10 seats that were up for grabs went to half half between HY and Ciise Muse.

I am not from Berbera. But I am sure there are plenty somewhere. You just need to find them.

Here is a pre-war picture of a girl relaxing at Berbera's Batalaale beaches.

If the road from Haraar to Jijiga to Berbera ever gets paved, Berbera will do major buisiness.
