Australia quits multiculturalism

Postby surria » Mon Jan 29, 2007 5:14 pm

In what is symbollically more than just a name change, Australia's Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs is changing to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

One more sign of a backlash that seems to be sweeping the Western world:

Australia quits multiculturalism?
That would imply that they did practice multi-culuralism before.
Are we thinking of the same Australia that had a 'whites only' immigration policy for 50 years, only finally relaxing it a few years ago?
The same Australia that invented apartheid, and got away with it for a generation while the civilised world was busy dealing with South Africa?
The same Australia populated with racist xenophobic immigrants from England, who left England because they couldn't stand living alongside people of a non-white colour?

England used to 'deport' its criminals, hooligans, and mental deranged people to Australia.

On the issue of multiculturalism in general, I beleive it needs to be reined in! It is being abused with all kind of nonsense being done in the name of 'mulitcultralism'.

Hi Surria. We have a neo-Conservative government who think all migrants support the opposition party and a Multicultural industry who have no idea about the circumstances or the situation of the people they claim to represent. On top of that, these days, the buzzword is assimilation. In my opinion, a name change of a department won't make any difference.
