I will not make a unanimous decision that one entity caused the trigger of Ethiopia's invasion in Somalia, but what I am interested in finding out is your disinterested views on the recent development in Somalia. Let us be real at this time and let us not express our viewpoints behind a facade of Somali nationalism. First, I will give you the opportunity to read one paragraph of Dr. Ismail Ali Ismail's long piece on the rigid socio political crosscurrents in Somalia.

ICU Mistakes And Miscalculations

It is a self-evident fact the ICU made a number of mistakes; and the first mistake related to the composition of its leadership; for its most visible leaders belonged to the same subclan and even the same sub-subclan. It was a mistake on their part to think that religion transcended affiliation and loyalty to the clan particularly, as in their case, where religion and politics were enmeshed. Because of this, many Somalis thought that the ICU contained the seed of its own destruction. The second mistake was its public expression of sentiments regarding the unity, not only of Somalis but also of Moslems in the Horn of Africa as a whole. In Africa there is little, if any, difference between an expression of sentiment and a statement of policy and the pronouncements of ICU sent danger signals to both Ethiopia and Kenya both of which have substantial Somali and Moslem populations. When a regime emerges from the ashes of civil war or as a result of coup d’etat the first thing to do is to assure one’s neighbours of peace and good neighbourliness, and the rest of the world that international treaties and agreements would be observed and respected. The third mistake was to give an ultimatum to Ethiopia and embark on a campaign of rapid expansion to all southern areas culminating in laying siege to the headquarters of the TFG.

The ICU was apparently a collection of religious zealots – a religious fraternity perhaps – who were evidently unschooled in state-craft. They sought to impose on the nation their own vision of an Islamic state but did not know the politics and the mechanics – the nitty-gritty, if you like – of translating their dream into reality.

Hmmmm...why blame the ICU for the inevitable? Ethiopia was itching to invade Somalia for decades, history has shown us Ethiopia's greed & ambitions. The ICU made mistakes along the way, but their accomplishments outweigh any harm they'd caused during their 6 month rule.

Comparing the ICU & the TFG is ridiculous. One group was mainly composed of a league of learned & religious men (with the exception of men like Indhacade), the other group are nothing more than the same power hungary, merciless warlords that have denied Somalia a chance for peace.

Anyhow, the ICU came & went, let's see what the TFG can do for the people of Somalia. Will they continue their legacy of greed, pickering & incompetence as they'd been for the past 2 1/2 years or will they actually put aside their differences & accomplish the tasks they've been entrusted with?

Muslim, look at the reality critically and without emotional outburst. I do not care if the TFG's composition consists of power hungary walords or what have you merciless blood suckers. The TFG's formation was as a result of ardous and long reconciliation process. The head of State and the Head of government were both elected by 274 members of its parliament who came from at least every clan in Somalia.(there are exceptions).

I do have several questions to ask you

Did the TFG declare war on Ethiopia? Was it the TFG who attempted to foment political discontent into the Muslim population of Ethiopia to rise up against the Christian minority rule? Not even IndhaAde made these reckless pronouncement, but Sheikh Aweis, your favorite leader of ICG.(should you need prove, just ask). And one last question, who gave the ultimatum to the TFG in Baidabo within days?

If you answer these questions, then we can proceed.

Answer: No. Neither did the ICU, instead all that the ICU said was: "We will fight every Ethiopian soldier in Somalia" because of a religious obligation called (Jihad fird-al-ayn) a.k.a. Compulsory Jihad; every able Muslim male is obligated to fight a kaffir army that enters Muslim land.

The ICU leadership never declared war on Ethiopia, contrary to all the media spin, all they said was No to foreign intervention!

Answer: Again, No. I don't recall the ICU making such a statement, but even if they did, they've every right to do so, because the Prophet (saw) said that no Muslim majority should be ruled by a kaffir minority. Sure, the ICU was as much of a "national security threat" to Ethiopia as Iraq was to the U.S. Laughable claims like that don't fly with people who have common sense.

Even prior to the rise of the ICU, Abdullahi's "government" wanted Ethiopian deployment to gurantee the TFG's enterance in to Hawiye dominated Mogadishu.

What does it matter anyway? The ICU came and did their shyt (whatever good or bad it was) and are now gone. Your "government" now has the ball in their court, let's what they can do, I'll be interested to see if they can pacifiy one district in Mogadishu.

UIC has came and gone, with its demise rose an old political established without no political track of achievements and is known to most of Somalis for its lack of political credibility and its inefficiency to achieve anything of political significant in the country. The so called TFG which have been brought to prominence recently by the widening scope of ‘Bush’s war on terror’ have existed in Somalia as pseudo government in parallel with competing warlords in most of the country for years. In fact until recently the T.F.G control only a small city of Baidoa, while the rest of the cities were in the privilege hands of a dozen warlords some of who are hold ministerial position in the TFG itself.

UIC as they came to be known was until recently as a powerful force of positive political change in Somalia many argue that brought security to many of town and villages including the notorious capital city of the country; Mogadishu immortalized in ‘Blackhawk Down’ the tragic incident in 94 that resulted in the withdrawal of US-Marine humanitarian intervention in the country. UIC was unique in the political and social quagmire befallen the county, unlike the warlords whose fought for their self-preservation and respective tribes the UIC members were brought not by a shared tribe but by Islam the main faith of most of Somalis and moreover their desire to put a stop to the rampant insecurity rife in country and more prominent in the capital. UIC you used the faith as rallying platform to captivate political, social and financial support from local Somalis and in the greater Diaspora but for obvious reason their rise as political and military force within Somalia attracted more than the interest of Somalis. For long the United State has always suspected and also maintain that the culprits of 98 bombing of USA embassy facilities in both Nairobi, Kenya and Dare salaam, Tanzania were in Somalia been harbored by locals Somalis symphatic to Al Qaeda that suspicion became the primary farce that necessitate United State involvement be it directly or otherwise to destabilize the UIC political credibility and religious value by comparing it with the Taliban known for the strict interpretation of Islam and its poor treatment of women. Although the comparison made were striking similar most notable are the banning of cinemas and music from been played in the wedding in the capital, but the broader comparison that UIC is part of Al Qaeda global franchised hell bent in doing harm to United interest and her allies in the region nonetheless thus has been proven not to be the case.

No doubt Ethiopia has achieved its goals in the country by instituting a political façade open to its policy object and influences that of its neocons master in the Whitehouse. The problem impeding their policy goals or hampering their extension of political influence in Somalia today comes from the very tool they have fought to endorse and thus the current so called TFG are toothless political charade prominently known by most Somalis for incubating a bunch of ruthless warlords in their so called political inclusion and reconciliation process all of whom are intellectual midgets with no decency and political wits including the so called President himself, who his political career is marked by Violation that stem from years of military associations with previous government of the late President Siyat Barre and later on as a self anointed president of so called Puntland. The very man whose is hands is awash just like many of his cabinet members of his Ethiopian puppet government are today regarded as the saviors of Somalia and the only source of hope and peace in are land of chaos and endemic political violation and tribal warfare, not withstanding for many Somalis they are the very source of today’s plight. Is not that very ironic indeed? Where the culprits of so much of Somalia’s agony and the death innocent men and women are today free and moreover held with highest sense of respect in the western political establishing and by OAU are dysfunctional political façade that has outlived its purpose. OAU is known for its failure throughout Africa, no where else is OAU’s failure more apparent than in Dafur, Sudan where the OAU troops function is more of a witness that peace troops only equipped with a pen and notebook to take note of the mass killings of men and rape of women, indiscriminate destructions of black Africans villages and properties. Why will Somalis be treated so much different than the Dafurian? Why should Somalis take the TFG by OAU as religious revelation? Ask yourself this will TFG put the interest of the country first and that of all Somalis at heart? If UIC was worse and an instrument religious fanatics no doubt TFG is no better either; TFG is a club of warlords and warmongers more importantly a mere condom used by Ethiopia to enter Somalia.
