Somali nationalism:

Postby Bagamundo » Tue Feb 27, 2007 10:28 pm

Why we somalis are becoming less and less nationalists. I remember during the height of the civil war in somalia, somali people in the deaspore weren't as dead beat as they're now. Back in the 90s, people were fighting back home, but at the same time we were aware of our environment. I mean, qbil was big but not to the extend that it over shadows our daily life.

One other thing i remember was, we were very opend minded and less hard headed in accepting the good things other societies had to offer. In other words, we didn't have coffee, it was either with the larger muslims or with other africans.

How do you think people view somalis now vs back then?

What are the factories that helped this dead beatness of the somali nationalistic fervours?

Do you think the media played a majore role in dis integrating and dis fractioning the already volnarable somali culture?

How is the newly influx of refugees helping cope with the problem?

Let me know what you guys think.

No qbil or tfg vs maxkamad please.

People that have been in qurbe longer than 8-9 years are very welcome.

Prag,

This is not for school walahi, I just had to ask because i've seen alots of negative views towards us somalis by non somalis.

This was not very probelematic back then as we didn't see ourselves any different. I mean if we were around africans, we were considered as such, if we were with muslims we were considered as such.

You can hardly see us engage wordly topics. Our topics revolve around qbil hebel iyo ina hebel.

What is making us more incline to what's going on in somalia than say our communities here?

There is nothing wrong helping back home but why does it always have to be the negative aspects of things vs the good things?

I have a lot of Somali friends who have great pride in their country, but are just devasted by the fact some of the countrymen (ie. warlords) who were supposed to be lookin out for the interest of the country began plotting narrow-minded politiks with sworn enemies against the interest of this nation.

Somali nationalism is gone. What is left is self interest.

Somali nationalism is an oxymoron since most Somalis are not nationalists/patriots!
