Question about Somaliland independence

Postby galia » Mon Mar 05, 2007 2:43 pm

What reasons does Somaliland have to leave the republic of Somalia other than the republic of Somalia is still suffering from the aftermath of the civil war.

Are not the people of Somaliland and the people of Somalia the same people, with the same religion, ethnicity and language.

I have nothing more than admiration and respect for the people of Somaliland for keeping peace and avoiding conflicts in their state, and we Konfuur can learn much from the people of Somaliland.

I understand the reasons that some have presented in stating their case to divorce Somalia on the basis that the Somali’s from the south have persecuted the Somali’s in the north for over 21 yrs, but I must stress that many Somali’s in the south themselves were also persecuted, does that also give them the excuse to divorce the union with Somalia.

All am saying is that we Konfuur and Somali Landers should unite rather then separate because as brothers together we have a stronger case to our help our people in Ogden and NFD, and as a united people we could be more active in helping our Muslims in Ethiopia that have no voice in their own country.

United we stand but divided we all fall, Somaliland should relinquish its claim for independence and do its utmost to help their Somali brothers in the south that are still griped by insecurity and anarchy.

If the people of Somaliland were to win their independence then they would set the beginning of the balkanisation and fragmentation of the Somali people. We the Somali people will have little chance of having our brothers in Ogden and NFD to join us.

Also am sure that respective states such as Punt land, Galmugdud and banadir as well as jubbah state would also press their case for independence thus eventually turning the once strong republic of Somalia into small fiefdoms that would follow what the rulers of Ethiopia wish.

Do the rulers of Somaliland portray what the people of Somaliland want?
I have meant many people from Somaliland here in the UK, almost all expect a small number still wish to be part of Somalia and disagree on what the political leaders of Somaliland call out for.

I believe that the political leaders of Somaliland do not care about the interest of the people of Somaliland, they wish for independence so they themselves can benefit from the millions of cash that would follow.
Would it be on the interest for the people of Somaliland to be divided from their brothers in the south?
How can the Somaliland administration consider a Somali from the south as a foreigner, when that supposed foreigner is from the same ethnic background with the same religion and language?

The whole notion of Somaliland independence is dangerous not only for the sovereignty of Somalia but also for every single country in this world.
The idea that Somaliland should be recognised as a different country than Somalia is absolutely silly and anyone that seriously support’s such a ridiculous idea needs to go back to school and start learning ABC again.

I personally don’t support Somaliland independence just as the English men does not allow Scottish independence. Would America have been a superpower if the united states of America were not united?

Like I said it is better if the Somali people as a whole are united for their own good, rather then been divided into petty small states only to get dominated by its larger and bigger neighbour (Ethiopia).
