What happened to the Ajuuraan?

Postby James Dahl » Sat Mar 10, 2007 3:30 pm

Once they ruled an empire that stretched from Qalaafo to Mogadishu to Hobyo. Then something happened to turn the Hiraab Hawiye against them, and later on Ethiopia conquered Qalaafo and the Ogaden. Even the names of the Ajuuraan rulers of this vast empire seem to be forgotten.

What is the story here? What caused the Hiraab to fight the Ajuuraan? Who were the Ajuuraan imams? When did Ethiopia capture Qalaafo and was this before or after Olol Diinle?

They were heavily defeated by the sacads at Ogaden only 100 km away from Mudug, where the sacads received huge support from the saleebaan and some ogaden pastorals because the ajuuraan sultan refused to acknowledge sacad nobility thus making the sacad elders extremely angry hence starting the destruction of ajuuraan power first in galinssor then quickly spread to Hobyo and Mogadishu itself.
