Somalia: Eight wounded after govt. troops attack the home of a clan leader

Aweys Osman Yusuf
Mogadishu 20, March.07 ( Sh.M.Network) At least 8 people were wounded after heavy gun battle took place at home of Dr. Mohamoud Mohammed Ulosow, the political of leader of Eyr sub-clan.

Dr. Ulusow

Government troops led by former deputy mayor of Mogadishu, Mohammed Osman attacked Dr. Ulosow’s house where traditional leaders of Eyr clan were meeting. Armed militias guarding the house fought back with the government forces, exchanging heavy gunfire and rocket propelled grenades.

The motives behind the attacks against the clan’s meeting are yet unclear.

Two government soldiers and a bus driver were wounded in the incident, while 5 other people were also wounded by the crossfire, witnesses told Shabelle.

Dr. Ulosow told Shabelle by phone that the incident had no impact on the clan meeting. “We will investigate why we were ambushed by government troops and we will know,” he said after Shabelle contacted him.

Contacts also made by Shabelle with the government went impossible.

Meanwhile, three were killed and more than 10 were wounded after unknown gunmen fired barrage of mortar rounds at the government bases in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Monday evening.

Witnesses said more than 30 mortars were fired last night by insurgents, targeting the seaport and other government installations in north Mogadishu while government and Ethiopian troops fired back several missiles.

“The Ethiopian troops based in former Somalia Defense Ministry fired two missiles towards Tawfiq neighborhood (North Mogadishu).

I could see the light of missiles when they were launched,” Anab Hashi, a resident around the Defense Ministry, said. The missiles that hit Tawfiq killed a man, witnesses reported.

What a gloomy future. You see, education is irrelevant when it comes to Somalis. He has PHD (he’s DOC) but took a job of clan leader like a geeljira. I have no sympathy, he should’ve been killed.
