Plane crashes in Somali capital

A plane has crashed shortly after taking off from an airport in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Local witnesses said they saw columns of smoke on the ground. The cause of the crash and the type of aircraft were not immediately known.

One reporter said he saw a missile hit the plane but this is not confirmed.

It crashed in the north of the city, where there has not been any fighting on Friday, although sporadic shooting was heard in the south.
