I am inclined to agree with you. Meles has managed to hold on for a long time. Eventually, though, he will go. He had an opportunity to turn Ethiopia into a multi party, representative democracy and establish a meaningful legacy, but he blew it.

I don't think his death will have any effect on how things will turn up. Gheedi will most likely ssume prisedency and hawiyes will finally quit moaning and rally behind him. I would say that really, no matter what, we will see this thing splinter. Eventually the TFG will come apart, and when that happens, and the Ethiopians get tired of using Hawiye kids for target practice, then the Hawiye will fisure again into multiple parts and the war in the south will go on at its same slow pace.
