A 19-year-old Pine Bluff man is in jail on charges accusing him of raping and battering his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.

Authorities say the toddler died in a hospital Monday, and a capital murder charge is likely to be filed against Marcha Jarmane Smith.

The toddler was identified by Pine Bluff police as Loniyah Beard.

She was first taken by Smith to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff on Sunday morning, and then transferred by air to Arkansas Children's Hospital at Little Rock. Ginger Daril, a spokeswoman for Children's Hospital, said the little girl was taken off life support and died Monday.

Police and prosecutors said doctors at the Little Rock hospital said Beard had suffered severe trauma to her head and body, and there was evidence that she had been raped.

At a court hearing, Jefferson County Circuit Judge Jodi Dennis found probable cause to hold Smith on charges of rape and first-degree battery.

According to Chief Deputy Prosecutor Kyle Hunter, Smith told police he had spanked the toddler because she wet her pants. He later said the girl fell and hit her head and stopped breathing when she ran from him while he was getting ready to give her a bath.

All three were black. Crime does not revolve around race. But what this guy did is unexcucable and repugnant.

White's do represent the serial killer and child molester population out of proportion with their numbers. Just as blacks represent other violent crime and general criminal behavior out of proportion to their numbers. Rgardless of the sociological reasons for each, it is why I believe that "racial Profiling" should not be considered and illegitimate tactic AS LONG AS IT IS NOT USED TO HARRASS PEOPLE.

You must live in cloud cuckoo land if you have any hope that racial profiling wont be used by the police (who are obviously almost all white) to target black/brown people, and its legality will only hide this type of behaviour...its difficult enough to challenge the police when you havent done anything wrong. The law is already on their side and there are so many other avenues to take in combatting crime.

In Britain, the type of people who commit certain crimes will already fit into some profile, irrespective of their skin colour. You cant ignore sociological reasons, the type pf black people who are gang bangers do not usually have bright futures and cosy homes (I dont feel sorry for them, I just understand that it is easy to get into this situation if its ever been an option in your fringe part of society before) they generally have the exact same profile as they white gang bangers they live next to, same accents, clothes, background, class.....peaodophiles are harder to detect because its completely a personal pyschological trauma or something that causes that, nothing to do with skin colour, I was personally just noting what I saw on the British media. Maybe in America race is such a huge issue in crime, in Britain it is completely a class issue.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. The key is recruiting quality minority officers, training ALL OF YOUR POLICE TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS - this means a basic training where all of their previous biases must be eliminated (and it's doable - we do it in the Army now, where racism has been tackled head on with much success), and a reminder of what the purpose of the police is - which is to protect and to serve the community. Did I say "ignore"?? Nope, I did not. There are sociological reasons, but from a policiing standpoint, that's irrelevent EXCEPT that they need to understand the profile, which goes beyond race. Race if a factor, not the ONLY factor. This is like the profiling of hijackers and terrorists by airlines. Don't waste much time on non-Muslims. They get a routine screening. But if a Muslim is coming through, your radar should be on. Why? Because right now the only people blowing up airliners and hijacking them are Muslims. Why waste time searching granny?

No, there seems to be a correlation, at least in Western society, between race and pedophelia and race and mass murder. Obviously it is not cast iron, but there is a correlation. When profilers examine a crime or a string of crimes better yet, they can often determine with a fairly high degree of certainty the approximate age and race of the perpetrator, and sometimes other details too.

Here is where the idea of a penal colony is not a bad one. Sexual orientation is an innate thing. Pedophelia is a sexual orientation. You are not going to change it. That's just the way it is. Of course, a pedophile doesn't have to act on it, but the incidence of repeat offenders is very high. Life in a penal colony would seem to be the way to go.
