I am visiting SD in late May and want to know where are the Somali areas? Where can I find a decent Somali mosque? An inexpensive Halal restaurant, etc?

I have been there 5yrs ago --it has great beaches (I mean biatches) --great weather -Somalis mostly found on 50th street where they have two restuarants and coffee shop.
there highways is as big as ever! like five lines this way --and five that way =10 lines and the speed limit is 70-75mph if u drive like a grand mom -take a cab.

once you come to SD, dont worry about getting anywhere, because everything about somali is walking distance, pool table, somali-hang out spots, barbarshops, masjids, mukhaayets, supermarkets, and many other stuff, all these places are located in a place commonly known as somaliville, 92105, university avenue, I would also recomend you to chill out at the beach, private ( la jolla ) or public ( mission valley ), play soccer, football, picnic or what-ever, cus if your comming from cold places, it will be hot 70-80 degrees in May, some attraction are world famous San Diego Zoo located in balboa park and Sea Word, if you get a chance check those places out and mexico-is right around the corner--if you into getting stuff for cheap, hit those spots.


there's two masjid close to each other, around 50th street, one is called masjid nuur, owned by pakastanis since the 80's and the other one is called masjid al-ansar, owned by somalis who had enough of pakastani racism, any check both of them out since they very close to each other, there's many restraunts but I would reccomend, the one right next to minnihaha grocery store, also close to masjid al-ansar, more costumer friendly then the ogadeen one in 52th street, , I also heard they just opened up one in 48th street, two blocks down!



kramer is right though, the highways or freeways are huge, I thought it was little till I seen the ones in minnisota and seattle, one more thing, gas is quite high up here during that time, so be prepared for that if your driving!

, I guess you dont know abdiweli eh?, that's not his vocabulary, it has more of dofaar yahow, ciyaal suuq, agah, abaahaa lagub just to name a few, anywho I never got along with him ever since I was a teenage, but now days he patrols non-somali areas just to get away from constant nagging from his ogaadeen comrades who pull the qabiil card on him!

Thank you all for your suggestions. So, Advocator you guys got a Cagdheer restaurant in SD too.. interesting. Masjid Al-Ansar sounds like a good mosque, I'll be sure to go there, insha Allah. And of course the beach is what I am very much looking forward to. What Muslim ethnicity dominates SD?

Actually, there are four graet restaurants in San Diego, three of them belongs to Harti Darood. Dozens of Supermarkets, also dominated by the Harti, and a recently built Mall at El Cajon BLVD where different people from different clans own up a variety of business retail stores. I like the only Iftin studio owned by Ali Saleeban/Owrtable guy.

Hi, Demure, how are you doing on this lovely friday? I wish I was going on a vacation, the office in Atlanta is sending me on a seminar to SD, last year it was Boston, this time they are going with SD. Firs time, I am going to the West Coast...

People say SD is an OG town but it is still dominated by the naturally business oriented Harti Daarood.

@Laguna Beach. I only have a week in California, I wish I could stay longer. I'll be sure to take a REAL Vacation to the West Coast in the near future.
