April 28, 2007 Reports reaching our service from our reporter in JigJiga and its environs
confirm the mass detention and extra judicial killings carried out by the
Tigray led Ethiopian military.

The mass detention exercises were carried systematically targeting certain communities within the city. Tigray led militias were observed stopping everyone they encountered and asking them their clan belongings. Somalis were seen leading the questioning process.

There are eyewitness reports of extra judicial killings in the city. Youth detained from Wardheer months ago, and who have been brought to the city are said tohave been severely tortured again. As a result eyewitnesses confirm the death of three youths so far.

For unexplained reasons the head of the main JigJiga hospital, Dr. Daaha Huseen, has been arrested and severely tortured. Also two doctors who were arrested last night, local time, were also confirmed to have been severely tortured.

The militias who are carrying out the mass detentions, severe torture, and extra judicial killings are heard to boast that they are there to revenge for the militia and military members who were killed at the camp that ONLF overran earlier this week at Cobole.


JigJiga city is under dawn to dusk curfew that is first confining civilians in their homes and enabling the Ethiopian militias to carryout mass detentions, torture and extra judicially killing some of those detained.

What were the ONLF trying to gain from attacking and massacring the Chinese? I see absolutely no gain but a defeat. Yes, they had massacred but what for?

The Chinese are 1 billion strong, they will not be intemidated by this and will send another 100 more. Meles has got the greenlight to massacre your people under the Terrorism camoflage. He is on the American payroll now and needs not to worry about the money needed to do his job. It somehow feels like everything is falling in just the right steps for Meles now.

What did the ONLF think was going to happen? The habeshi were going to bring recogntion and a box of chocolates?

Imagine if the Ethipian government collapsed and there was no more Ethiopia. You would have the folllowing armed actors in the Ogaden: Ethiopian Army, Region V militia, AIAI-Ogaden, ONLF. Not good.

But why target the civilians. They could have hunted down the ONLF freedom fighters in the jungle, or are they not confident enough to carry out this mission? The mass detention and arrest is to gain information under duress and torture and subject the suspected but innocent Ogaadens to a possible executions.

Import is outlawed in Ethiopia even commercial products. so I would guess that ONLF gets financed from Eritrea and Djibouti.

If ONLF is terrorist so SNM. They are freedom fighters like you were.

SNM was on a mission to free the people of Somaliland from faqash rule. SNM was a very democratic organization with five freely elected chairmen, the mission was accomplished with no mass killing or property loot of innocent civilians. Saxib, ONLF has a command structure and a power hiararchy. Its chairman is also subject to a term election and replacement(I don't know exactly how long). More, It is a political organization like "Somaliland" aka SNM, but it hasn't attained its ultimate goal, which is to free its people from the current oppressive regime and its unjust laws. ONLF's opportunity, albeit, lies in the collapse of the current regime in Ethiopia just like Eritrean Liberation Front. It will take time. On the other hand, "Somaliland"'s encroaching policy towards ONLF and its people is obvious. That clan adminstration you subscribe to have handed over innocent OG people who saught refuge and brotherhood from Hargeisa to the enemy they escaped from while it pursues a trade relations with the people of ONLF. To achieve both sneaky enterprises concurrently without some antagonistic reaction and backlashes baffles me. How could you maintain good relations with both Ethiopia and ONLF? You can't, that is why the people of Ogaden have shifted to Puntland for trade and commerce.
