Jordan has enough uranium for developing nuclear energy

Postby *jr » Sun May 06, 2007 9:40 pm

Hhmmm! lets see what Washington thinks of this...

12:54, May 06, 2007
Jordan has enough uranium for developing nuclear energy:

Jordan's Energy Minister Khaled al-Shraydeh said on Saturday that his country has the uranium needed to develop its recently announced nuclear energy program, but still needs necessary legislation and technical personnel to implement the plan.

It's estimated that Jordan can extract 80,000 tons of uranium from its uranic ores, and the country's phosphate reserves also contain some 100,000 tons of uranium, al-Shraydeh was cited by the official Petra News Agency as saying.

Meanwhile, the minister said Jordan is willing to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency and wishes to win the nuclear watchdog's support.

Didnt washington already disapprove with Jordan's plan, saying that it conflicts with the unrest in the region and thus is a dangerous time for such project. I personally think its a good move for Jordan.

Off the top of my head here, I think that story was about to some Gulf states that expressed desire to go nuclear energy.

They all are going to go with Nuclear Energy.

Washington can't do sh1t about it. They can bomb all those places, sure, but they aren't because the US needs "allies" in such a volatile region Laughing

Tel Aviv would bomb them though, no doubt about it.

jr,

Yeah, to think about I think it was Saudi Arabia if I'm not mistaken. SA also foolishly critized Irans plans to develop Nuclear energy siting it was a burden on the neighbouring Gulf countries.

Ismahan,

Here's the article I had in mind....

-------------------------------------------------

Source: BBC
Sunday, 10 December 2006, 16:59 GMT

Six oil-rich Gulf nations have said they are considering seeking nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Officials from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE also urged a peaceful settlement to the crisis over Iran's nuclear programme.

The six Arab states said they were exploring the possibility of creating a shared nuclear programme.

They stressed their right to nuclear energy and emphasised that any programme would be peaceful.

Officials from the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) - a grouping of regional states - have been meeting in Riyadh.

A GCC statement released on Sunday said: "The states of the region have a right to possess nuclear technology for peaceful purposes."

Thanks for sharing that. This is the article I was referring to on my first comment. After the king's annocement, the House spokman said it was a premature proposal for Jordan to start on such a project due to the region's problems with terrorism.

Nuclear Power is the way to go.

You should ignore all that environmental bullshit, thats been thrown around by those tree hugging, khaniisin hippies
Nuclear power especially the newer designs like the South African High temprature Pebble reactor, are small and powerfull and very safe.

and dont believe the bull about waste, nuclear waste does not have to eb stored underground.
it can be used as more nuclear fuel.

Nuclear power can desalinate seawater and pump it into the irrigation systems, we can turn back and defeat desertification
we can multiply farmland, the power can be used for industrialization.
