Chinese oil exploration firm pull out of Ogaden

The Group's intention is clear; it wants to tell foreign companies coming to Ethiopia, and the region in particular, that it is not safe to operate. It appears it has worked. Zhongyuan Petroleum Exploration Bureau, based in central China's Henan province and part of the larger state owned China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), is reported to have pulled out. The company was working, alongside Ethiopian staff, in the Ogaden basin, where millions of dollars of investment has been made since the US based Standard Oil Company carried out a geological survey in 1920.
